Voices and Visions:Mark Strand reads Elizabeth Bishop



这两天老板迷上家史,公务荒疏,我们也有一点时间网上瞎逛逛。瓦尔登湖线上正在聊冯内古特和马慧元。:)

聊聊我们的瓦尔登邻居

十四介绍了这套VHS The American Poet: Voices and Visions,真不错,看了 Elizabeth Bishop一盘,里边有几位诗人朗诵Bishop的诗。她的诗好,安静平稳。这盘里最喜欢 Mark Strand,他长的样子就很诗人,灰白头发,骨格清奇,声音特别好听,有一种后鼻腔的回音,让我想起Daniel Day Lewis最性感最浪漫的时候。:)诗还真是要读出来的,不要慷慨激昂地‘朗诵’,就那样和风细雨地读,听起来真是享受。

不喜欢坐长途公共汽车,晚上开车碰上 Moose也是灾难,可这首诗却写出了长途公共汽车半夜碰上 Moose 时的 sweet sensation of joy。;)Moose出现之前作者作了那么长那么长的铺垫,世俗生活说不尽的喧嚣和烦恼,我还一直纳闷,这首诗究竟为什么要叫 Moose,结果她就出现了。:) Mark Strand 读的就是其中的一段:

The Moose

......
--Suddenly the bus driver
stops with a jolt,
turns off his lights.

A moose has come out of
the impenetrable wood
and stands there, looms, rather,
in the middle of the road.
It approaches; it sniffs at
the bus's hot hood.

Towering, antlerless,
high as a church,
homely as a house
(or, safe as houses).
A man's voice assures us
"Perfectly harmless. . . ."

Some of the passengers
exclaim in whispers,
childishly, softly,
"Sure are big creatures."
"It's awful plain."
"Look! It's a she!"

Taking her time,
she looks the bus over,
grand, otherworldly.
Why, why do we feel
(we all feel) this sweet
sensation of joy?
......

那年在阿拉斯加也见了这么一只,卧在草丛里,很善良的样子。

下车和它拍照,不想被森林管理员臭骂了一顿:“不想活了?“
据说,这家伙比熊还危险。

诗人毕竟不生活在现实里。
